BUDAPEST, February 5, 2020 - Environmental issues have now become a global topic that requires the involvement of all, from the young to the elderly. And the Mongolian Director of Foreign Relations, Peljee Buyandelger saw the 83rd AIPS Congress in Budapest as a perfect platform to promote the first International Youth Green Games which will be held from 13 to 19 September, 2020.“The Games were initiated by the president of Mongolia with a main purpose which is to give an understanding to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the youth through sport. It aims to give to the future generation the opportunity to live in a peaceful, accessible and fair society and, of course, to be happy and have a better life,” Buyandelger said in her presentation during the last day of the congress.The objectives of this project which will play an important role in implementing the Kazan Action Plan which was set up in 2017 by UNESCO is: “Releasing children and young people from drugs and social discrimination to allow them have a bright future and joining global youth together against climate change and global warming in order to create a new way for a better future.”All the 17 SDGs will be highlighted during the organization of this event and every goal will have side events and activities. Eco-friendly technology such as renewal energy and recycled papers will be used during the Games.The slogan of the IYGG is, ‘save the world; be human, be green, be eco’. “Through this slogan, the IYGG want to encourage the young to be healthy, ethical and respectful, educated, safe and intelligent,” Buyandelger explained.The Games are open to athletes up to 18 years old from all member countries of the UN and 25 sports will be in the programme: archery, athletics, basketball 5×5 and 3×3, chess, climbing, cricket, e-sports, fencing, football, jujitsu, judo, kurash, sambo, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and wrestling. Most of these sports are going to be outdoor for energy saving reasons.The brand of this IYGG will be inclusive as it will involve Olympic and Non-Olympic sports, Paralympics, Special Olympics and Deaflympics sports.Alongside the IYGG, a big forum will be organized on the participation of youth in the implementation of SDGs as well as art and cultural performances to show Mongolian history. All the athletes will have the opportunity of participating in the building of the UN green garden. “Every participant could plan a tree in this garden and it will grow with their names and countries,” Buyandelger said.There will also be a young reporters programme during the International Youth Green Games. “We are inviting 10 young reporters to Mongolia to deliver the information in different languages and introduce the implementation of the SDGs to the world. Young reporters from Mongolia and International young reporters will have opportunity to share their experience during the games.”Beside the athletes, everyone who will come to see the Games could participate in some sporting event. “Those sports events are oriented on advertising to people the opportunities they have to practice physical activities at no high cost. This include street work out, break dance, roller skate, marathon, and teqball, which is a new sport in Mongolia and we would like inculcate this new sport in the youth,” Buyandelger stated.
